Tell me about a project that failed. What did you learn?
Think first
Own your part, be specific, show what you changed afterwards.
Strong answer
Use a real example and a clear structure: the context, what you were responsible for, what went wrong, and what you did about it. Interviewers look for ownership ("I didn't confirm the success metric in writing") rather than blame, specifics rather than generalities, and a concrete change in how you work now ("I now send a written definition of done after every kick-off"). Keep it to about two minutes and finish with the lesson.
Weak-answer indicators
- Blames the customer or team
- A "failure" that is really a humble-brag
- No lesson
Likely follow-up questions
- What would the customer say about that project?
